Due to the pandemic “Facial Mask” become necessary and mandatory when we go outside to public areas. Wearing a facial mask for a long time of period can cause irritation and redness to your skin. You might notice that your skin has been breaking out recently after wearing a mask during the day. Well, you’re not alone to face this problem. This term is called “Maskne” which cause skin condition by wearing a face mask or covering. Here are some suggestions for protecting your skin from the breakout.
Abandon makeup or wear less makeup as possible(If necessary) According to The American Academy of Dermatology Association, Wearing makeup under a mask can clog pores and cause acne.
Wash your face before and after you wear a face mask. Use a gentle cleanser to wash your face by avoiding fragrance or oil cleansing product. I would recommend using cleansing gel or 100% soap-free with no harsh ingredients instead.
Apply moisturizer before wearing a mask to protect your skin barrier. Wearing a mask for a long time during the day may cause irritation to your skin. I suggest applying a non-comedogenic moisturizer that contains Ceramides, Niacinamide or Hyaluronic acid to protect your skin barrier between your skin and a face mask and help to keep your skin hydrated.
The type of mask does matter to your skin. Choose the right mask for your skin. The cotton mask is good and tries to avoid mask made of synthetic products and polypropylene surgical masks.
